JOB DESCRIPTION TITLE: Technical Specialist for Family Planning, Reproductive and Maternal Health (FP/RMH)
The Technical Specialist for Family Planning, Reproductive and Maternal Health (FP/RMH) will work closely with the Senior Technical Advisor (STA) for FP/RMH and local counterparts to support the planning for and provision of direct technical assistance with a focus on capacity building in areas of identified need. S/he is a seconded employee of EngenderHealth and reports to the STA for FP/RMH. S/he will focus in particular on the adaptation and application of QI/QA tools and approaches supportive of the implementation and scale up of best practices in FP/RH, and MH – including to support integration with HIV and AIDS in AWARE II supported countries, monitoring uptake of the approaches and providing the necessary follow-up support to ensure their sustainability.
This position will be responsible for: 1) Manage the overall AWARE II Family Planning and maternal health activities at country level 2) Provide technical assistance and support to the country and the implementing NGOs/CBOs in the planning and application of the agreed FP and maternal health priority interventions within the integrated package , 3) Coordinate and supervise implementing NGOs/CBOs activities related to the integrated service delivery package at community to facility levels 4) In collaboration with the AWARE II M&E advisor contribute to tracking the FP and maternal health performance indicators in the country supported by the project 5) In collaboration with the Senior Technical Advisor in Capacity building ensure the assessment and filling of the gaps and weaknesses in the technical capacity in FP and maternal health of the selected NGOs/CBOs to optimize their competence. 6) In collaboration with the FP/RH, NCH and the HIV and AIDS technical advisors assure the integration of the FP activities in all RH and HIV and AIDS activities. 7) Work closely with the policy advisor to strengthen the AWARE II evidence based advocacy to reposition and boost the service delivery FP programs in the country. 8) Strive to support and strengthen the community approaches identified as on of the best strategies in the region via the promotion of the adapted expanded community based distributors models 9) As AWARE II country representative, facilitate in-country operations and liaise with country counterparts and represent AWARE II as needed to assure visibility of the project interventions
Qualifications include: Master’s Degree in Public Health or related field and/or clinical degree with relevant experience working in FP/RH and/or MNCH programs in West Africa (at least 7 years); solid experience in the development and implementation of reproductive and maternal health programs; demonstrated capacity to work with African experts and partners in developing technical materials, policies, and action plans and providing training and TA to improve health services and policies in FP/RH and/or MNH. Experience working in West Africa. Ability to speak, read and write at highly proficient professional level in English and French is necessary.
